Arc/Flame/HVOF/Plasma Sprayed
These methods involve
heating a material and accelerating it at a high velocity onto the backing
tube. Depending on the material needed, these methods can supply an economical
means or in some cases, the only means to make certain targets.
In almost all cases, a special layer must first be applied to get good adherence to the backing tube. Critical aspects to this method are getting good adhesion between passes of the spray gun and keeping heating of the assembly to a minimum to avoid cracking. A typical pass of the spay gun will result in the deposit of 0.05 to 0.2 mm of material, depending on the spray method and material being deposited.
Some materials made by this method: Al, Ni/Cr, Si/Al, Zn, Zn/Al…
